This week some delicious things by post and reminders of things to do and watch. Plus I have questions. And there's a gorgeous new cookbook you'll probably want.
1. I’ve had Gail’s and La Bakerie mince pies in Wanstead so far. I’m really looking forward to Population Bakery’s and Toad’s especially, but honestly all of them because I’m greedy to try!
2. It’s been ages since I bought anything from Toad Bakery or Sourdough Sophia so I’m looking forward to going back. I’m also excited that Perilla Dining are opening a new restaurant.
I’m very excited about eating all the things on the bakery safari I’m guiding tomorrow. 😁
3. I splashed out in the Black Friday sale and bought myself (on behalf of my husband 😅) a sauna blanket. 🥰 🔥 I’m very excited. Let me know if you want my thoughts after it arrives! 😁
I struggle to find mince pies without palm oil which I refuse to eat, sustainable or not. Medical research found PO to be dangerous for humans but the findings were suppressed by the corporation funding the study. It was when trans fats were banned (PO was a popular substitute in confectionery). It was anticipated that positive marketing messaging could be developed from the findings but the opposite happened.
I think some of the supermarkets do all butter ones? And I’d say most of the better bakeries in London make their own pastry and mincemeat and don’t use palm oil either.
I know what you mean though. I’d like to think a small amount won’t hurt us but it is in so many convenience and sweet supermarket foods.
There are definitely palm oil free ones in Waitrose. I always check as I avoid it too - I don’t believe a lot of the palm oil stated as sustainable actually is.
Christmas is a hard time for raisin haters. Just saying. #downwithmincepies

Thank you!!
Now I really need to try Croissant Butter!
I think we need a croissant butter party to share one of these elusive jars. 😃
Paul A Young's recipe for chocolate brownie mince pies makes the best mince pies ever! 😍
Which book is the recipe in please?? ❤️🙏

I picked up some mince pies from Miel last week! Delicious!
Oh I went yesterday and they didn't have any!

That’s sadly true.
