I promised my daughter ice cream after the show. The theatre was close to William Curley and Gelupo. We went to both. (Of course.)
And now I need to tell you that if you can get the raspberry sorbet from William Curley, you need to. Sit in the secret courtyard, with a sprinkle of his hot chocolate mix, made with award-winning Amedei chocolate, on top of the dark pink brilliance, and enjoy.
A single scoop is £3.50, a double is £6.
📌 33 Smith's Ct, London W1D 7DP
🚆 Piccadilly Circus
Not to say you shouldn’t also visit Gelupo whilst you’re there. I loved the peach sorbet and
(one of my brilliant Chocolate Ecstasy Tours guides) told me the Apricot & Vanilla is the best sorbet she’s ever had.A single scoop (one flavour only) is £4. Two is £7.
📌 7 Archer St, London W1D 7AU
🚆 Piccadilly Circus
Gelupo are also popping up in Holland Park for the outdoor opera and, in their gelateria, stock a range of excellent chocolate bars including Amedei and Guido Gobino.
Is there somewhere you love for ice cream / gelato / sorbet?
It doesn’t have to be in London!
Delicious Things in London, spotted online
Here are things I’ve stumbled upon online that have me wishing the tube wasn’t so unpleasantly hot on some lines in summer, that it makes travelling by public transport something to be done only when absolutely necessary:
The Chocolate Cherry Bomb - an ice cream sandwich from Finks made with morello cherry ice cream with Valrhona chocolate chunks and Kirsch, between brownie slices.
📌 70 Mountgrove Rd, Finsbury Park, London N5 2LT
📌 88 Gillespie Rd, Finsbury Park, London N5 1LN
📌 The Pump House, London N16 9DJ
🚆 Arsenal (yes, for all of them!)
📌 62 Chatsworth Rd, Lower Clapton, London E5 0LS
🚆 Homerton
Nicolas Rouzard’s Raspberry Croissant bomb at The Connaught Patisserie
📌 The Connaught, Carlos Pl, London W1K 2AL
🚆 Bond Street
Kova Patisserie’s Kinako & Pecan Snow Ice - only at the Aldgate East Branch.
📌 27 Piazza Walk, London E1 8QH
🚆 Aldgate East
Kinako is the name of roasted soy beans ground into a flour. It’s common in Japan, a little malty and I love it as a flavour. There’s something quite nostalgic about it, even though I definitely didn’t have it growing up.
The August special Cherry Choux at Le Choux - but they’re closing for a holiday 19th - 28th so go now.
📌 332 Ladbroke Grove, London W10 5AD
🚆 Ladbroke Grove / Kensal Green
And delicious things I’m coveting online
The viral Pistachio Chocolate bar has been copied by Chocolatia but using high quality ingredients.
Before you click on the link: a gentle reminder that some wholesale chocolate prices have doubled since last year, so don’t be surprised that things made with chocolate look pricey! I’m finding it pretty scary that this bar is £8.50, but I trust Chloe to be pricing fairly with what is a combination of expensive ingredients and a lot of labour.
Little House Dorset won a Great Taste Award for their brownie. I haven’t tried it yet but I love their chocolates.
A whole host of other chocolate companies won great taste awards too. You can see them here.
Delicious to look at …
On Saturday I went with Emily Johnston (who is a joy to follow on Instagram and just as brilliant to spend time with in person) to “puppy yoga” in Wandsworth. Emily posted the most beautiful reel that is a cuteness overload. (I’m talking about the puppies, not me. 💅😂)
The comments on her reel made us both aware that there have been bad actors in using dogs for this kind of thing. Organisations who don’t care for the dogs’ welfare. At this session with Take A Paws, the first thing we were told is that the welfare of the puppies is the most important thing. We were told not to disturb any sleeping and how - and how not to - interact with them. Most of the puppies slept for most of the session, though we all got enough attention from the ones wanting to play. They had long breaks between the three sessions across one day, they didn’t travel far to get there and had access to water. I did some more research afterwards and also learnt this, below, which made me feel more reassured about the concept in general:
These are some of the headlings from The Dogs Trust,
with details that all align with how these pups were incorporated into this business:
Get your puppy used to being handled
Introduce your puppy to all different types of people
Prepare them for new sounds
Introduce them to new environments and objects
You can read more at dogstrust.org.uk if you’re interested.

It really was a treat even to watch the puppies at close quarters. The “yoga” is secondary and I’d prefer it was puppy Pilates as yoga is so much more. I briefly considered “stretch and stroke” as an alternative but, yeah, that would be problematic in its own way! 😅
* We were graciously offered spaces by the hosts, organised by
, who works part time as a puppy assistant there (dream role!) but, as always, under no obligation to share. Given what I learnt I really wanted to share here. I hope you don’t mind the non-food sidebar! Thanks for bearing with the delays on the area/city reviews. I have less time to myself in these long school holidays, mostly happily so. 😅 Tomorrow I’m away to the British seaside via Mabel Bakery. I can’t wait. (I wrote more about Mabel Bakery here.)
Until sometime soon…
Please do share your favourite places for gelato and ice cream for us all to enjoy! Or anything delicious you’ve had recently!
Love and sunshine,
Jen xx
I had a delicious cone from Wave Gelato on Broadway Market on Sunday - mango passionfruit sorbet and chocolate sorbet. Tasted like one of the fancy Pierre Herme macarons!
Gelateria 3 bis does an amazing fig and mascarpone gelato 🤤
