For some reason - I’m blaming not being at home for four weeks - I didn’t look at the list of Substacks I’m actually subscribed to when I sent out last week’s newsletter. 🤦🏻‍♀️

So, I’d like to share some other great UK Food Substacks that you might want to add to your inbox.

I recognise the possibility that some of these may end up replacing this one’s space in your inbox, but my mother always said (and still says)

“what’s for you won’t go by you”

and I like that life philosophy. A little bit like one I heard from Mel Robbins this year: “let them”another great mantra for letting go of situations you can’t control.

Let’s not “let them” when it comes to removing women’s rights to prioritise their health and wellbeing or dropping bombs on people though, hey? 😔

I know you don’t come here for politics, but I spend a lot of time thinking about it so it’s seeped in today. 🤷🏻‍♀️

On that note, I currently subscribe to (and usually read)

Gina Martin
‘s
The Good Chat
and
Caroline Criado Perez
‘s
Invisible Women
and a few American political summaries, but if you’ve got any other insightful Substacks to recommend - especially good British political ones, please do share them with me or everyone, or reply and let me know.

On a related note: thank you for the subscriptions that came in December 🥰

I made a donation for all new December subs (or equivalent month for annual subs) as promised to Medicine sans Frontiers. ❤️

Live podcast date mistake!

I need to change the date I just asked you to save for the live podcast on Croissants! 🫣

Sorry!

A few hours after I hit send last week I got a text saying someone important wasn’t available on that date (not my guests, they were still good with it).

I’ve just confirmed a new one that everyone can make:

It’ll be Saturday 23rd March instead!

Still at 10am!

I really hope you can still make this date. The tickets will be on sale mid-February, but first to paid subscribers as there are only (up to) 40 seats.

Also, below the paywall, a special insight into something chocolatey I started buying regularly in London for me and for gifts.

It’s a ridiculously moreish and great value chocolate treat that everyone I’ve given it to has loved as well (over 30 people!).

I don’t like secrets (at all! 🥴), but I want to make sure the lovely people who are paid subscribers feel like they’re getting looked after.

For everyone, the UK Food Substacks I overlooked last week 🫣:

Amused Bouche by Fliss Freeborn
- award-winning food writer in her twenties

Emily Scott - My Kitchen Journal
- chef in Cornwall who cooked for world leaders and King Charles.

Bake Sense
by
Sarah Lemanski
- the brilliant baker behind Nova Bakehouse in Leeds

alexcrumb
by
Alex Lim
- another one I was signed up before it was moved to Substack - great recipes and enjoyable summaries of what Alex is enjoying right now

Chip Paper
by Russell Alford & Patrick Hanlon, also known as Gastro Gays who moved back home to Ireland just before the pandemic. They write restaurant reviews for The Irish Times, have written a cookbook and have excellent taste that spans chip shops to Michelin Stars. Their first book is Hot Fat.

ingredient by Rachel Phipps
is food writer Rachel’s focus on one ingredient at a time for a month.

I’m very excited to learn that

Benjamina Ebuehi
has just launched
Sweet Things
. Her recipes are beautiful and delicious, as she is also a food stylist you’ll be in for gorgeous updates.

I have loved seeing

Beth O'Brien
’s baking experiments on Instagram and her Substack
Tastebuds
is wonderful too. She’s based in New Zealand now but originally from Ireland.

I’m excited about this brand new newsletter from nutritionist and East London mum,

Dina Hassan
:
The Nutrition D-List
- it will include 5 minute recipes, too.

Lecker
started as a podcast of food stories. It still is, with words now, as a monthly book club and interview with the author. January’s is with one of my favourites, Tim Anderson, on his latest book, Ramen Forever.

Tiffany Chang
hasn’t written in a while but her raw life updates were funny and real and often included recipes and are worth perusing back over. You might know Tiffany from Netflix’s Crazy Delicious where she wowed chefs with her Taiwanese American cooking.

If you’re a paid subscriber you can comment on this but it’ll only be seen by other paid subscribers so if you want to shout out these or any other great Substacks you can highlight a section of text and you should get an option to share or “restack” it.

Or you could add them to the comments of last week’s newsletter!

I’m back in London next week and will return with recommendations plus I’m working on my big Melbourne summary.

Since I last wrote I’ve posted videos showing inside Tarn Bakery in Crouch Hill and Chai Guys Bakehouse in Notting Hill on Instagram and TikTok, if you want to see what they look like and what they offer. I highly recommend both!

And here’s something delicious to pick up on your next visit to London

I spotted this
