How can you try croissants from different bakeries in one place?
Come to the market this Saturday! Plus some great takeaway lunches, cookies, buns and cake all from North East London. And a chocolate talk in London on Monday.
This week’s email is slightly shorter than normal. Slightly! 😄
I am trying to do too much.
Wouldn’t be the first time. 🙃
All of the tickets for the live recording of The Next Delicious Thing podcast on Saturday are SOLD OUT. That feels nice. I’m so, so excited for it.
I’m also really excited for the market!
Yep, needed the big shouty font.
This is where you might be able to try croissants from more than one bakery in one place, even if you missed out on tickets to the recording.
Look at this line up! Small, but perfectly formed.
The market is free to visit (in case that wasn’t obvious).
I can’t guarantee what croissants will be there when you arrive, but…
I’m certain you won’t be disappointed by items from Pump Street Chocolate (their croissant Easter Egg!), Populations Bakery (I think George will be making some cookies, whole grain filled Choux buns and possibly other things), Gaya’s Cakes gorgeous cupcakes and Humdingers’ danishes, doughnuts and sausage rolls.
Not to mention all of the excellent sweet and savoury baked goods that Toklas sell!

A Chocolate Talk this coming Monday
On Monday evening, the Cookery School at Little Portland Street is hosting my chocolate colleagues Paul A Young, Jon Hogan (of Win Win Chocolate, the not-chocolate), Chantal Coady (who I’m sure you already knew was the founder of Rococo Chocolates, currently creative director of Rococo and Prestat), Joanna Brennan of Pump Street Chocolate, Neil Kelsall, the marketing director of Chocolat Madagascar and Dr Michael Odijie of UCL who studies modern slavery in relation to cocoa & chocolate.
The topic is Chocolate: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly.
I believe there are tickets left here: https://www.cookeryschool.co.uk/product/chocolate-good-bad-ugly/
Dreamy Sandwiches
I’m doing a short course this week (told you: too much) and it happens to be mostly held near the original Dusty Knuckle Bakery. It felt like far too long since I last had one of their INCREDIBLE sandwiches.
This was every bit as good as I remembered them being and worth every penny of its £11. Read the menu in the photo. You’ll see all the work that goes into them!

Have you had one?

I also really enjoyed the Ethiopian (vegan) takeaway box from the stand near Brunswick East bakery (£9 including injera - I explained injera in this newsletter where I interviewed Melissa Thompson) - and it felt very nourishing) and a Chocolate Guinness cake (£4.50 to take away) from Brunswick East.

The best vegan treats in town
We skipped our Sunday family breakfast date tradition last week, but still got to enjoy treats from Beaten by a Whisker (thank you
!).I got to re-confirm how much I love Laura’s chocolate chip cookies (amongst the best in London, and vegan!) and discovered her pistachio buns are at least as good as the cinnamon and chocolate ones I’ve had before.
No photo because I forgot 🤷🏻♀️ , but you can see the deliciousness on Laura’s Instagram and here’s the little video I made for it and showing inside on Instagram and TikTok (same video!).
📌 Unit 3, 5a Old Brewery Way, London E17 7FJ
NEAREST STATION: St James Street
My questions for you:
Are you going to come on Saturday? 🤩
Does this kind of chocolate talk interest you?
Have you ever had a Dusty Knuckle sandwich?
Are there any other sandwiches you think are of this calibre in London?
Where else do you think does a great chocolate chip cookie (I’m open to this being outside of London because you know I will travel across and out of the country for food!).
Do you also take on too much? I feel like this is probably universal, but if anyone has any wise secrets to share, please do!
As always, they’re numbered to make it easy for you to answer just the ones you want to - no need to answer them all!
I’ll go first. See you in the comments!
lots of love,
Jen x

The talk sounds interesting
1. Yeah I don’t need to answer this
2. Or this one 😂
3. Or this one!
4. I hear good things about Chatsworth Bakehouse Sandwiches.
5. I really liked Chez Maitre’s one. Very different to this. I have others but I’m tired and drawing blank now!
