Did I tell you I forgot my passport last Monday?

I’ve never done that before.

I even woke up at 3.30am instead of 5.30am and left the house so confident that I had every single thing I could possibly need.

As my father liked to say, pride comes before a fall.

On my leisurely walk through St Pancras to the Eurostar gates I remembered. I felt sick. I had one hour and ten minutes until my train left and, all going extremely well, it’s a 35-40 minute journey from my house to check in. Each way.

I called my husband and asked him to grab the passport and run, to throw a coat over our daughter’s pyjamas and just leave. We agreed to meet at Farringdon.

I had more time than them to get to Farringdon, so I went to the staff and said “I’m on the 8:05”.

“Great,” they replied and gestured past them.

“No, I forgot my passport.” That’s when they told me the check in closes at 7.30am. How did I not realise this? I already thought it was going to be tight. The woman started to suggest they could wait a fe…
