A discount just for readers - plus, it turns out THREE bakeries opened in London last week...
đ± Today I'm sharing the one I didnât tell you about, as well as a discount on my bundle of London maps. đ
I canât believe that after all of the bakery news I shared last week, there was still another place to tell you about. đ€Ż
Another beautiful new bakery opens in London on the Kingâs Road
The History of Kingâs Road
Itâs not officially âthe Kingâs Roadâ these days, but youâll often find Londoners (especially the ones who live in Chelsea) referring to it with âtheâ in front.
For several decades it was even called Cemetery Road. It reverted back in 1911 to honour King George V.
It first got its name - the Kingâs Road - in the 16th century when a country track used by King Henry VIII to get to his private manor near the Thames in Chelsea, was commandeered for his exclusive use.
It was then upgraded with gravelling in 1694 for King Charles II and remained for the exclusive access of his household and peers, and for the monarchs who came after him, despite much pushback. There were several toll houses to keep the riffraff off. The toll was a piece of copper with the image of the Kingâs head on one side.
Usage was relaxed from 1780 and finally the management of the road was handed over to the Crown Estate for public use in 1820.
It became the centre of the âSwinging Sixtiesâ music and fashion culture.
(just a snippet of the history I share on the Chelsea Sweet Treats Adventure)
If you follow @thenextdeliciousthing on Instagram youâll already know about the bakery Iâm referring to, but for those of you who are here, so you donât have to be there, hereâs what I shared:
âGorgeous @linea.london opened quietly on Monday in a perfect location in Chelsea with a huge outdoor, year-round terrace overlooking @dukeofyorksquare on @kingsroad.london.
There are two kitchens on site. The pastry kitchen is led by Argentinian Chef Partner Caro Ferpozzi making excellent bread for the restaurant, stunning croissants, medialunas, danishes, cheese bread (a version of pao de queijo), cheesecake (this month itâs made with Brie), beautiful petite patisserie and so much more.â
Medialunas are the Argentinian version of a croissant, a yeasted dough shaped into a crescent (medialuna translates to âhalf moonâ), but with egg in the dough as standard, and usually honey, too. There is typically less butter and more sugar than French croissants and theyâre usually smaller. After baking theyâre brushed with a sugar syrup. At Linea it was brushed with a housemade fig glaze.
Pao de queijo is a traditional Brazilian savoury baked snack or breakfast item. Itâs made with starch derived from the root yuca/cassava - in this form itâs known to most of us as tapioca flour, plus eggs, milk, oil and lots of cheese. Itâs a little crispy on the outside (definitely where the cheese oozes out) and soft, and sometimes gooey and dense, sometimes more pillowy in the middle, with a bouncy texture coming from the starch.
The version that chef Caro makes includes mature cheddar and Parmesan. The texture might not be for everyone - itâs wetter and more dense than what we think of as bread - probably because technically itâs not bread - but if you like grilled cheese then youâll probably love it. When itâs made this well, I do.

Menus! I always wish I could see the menus of places so I hope this is helpful to you, too!
Hereâs the post on Instagram which contains videos of the croissant and cinnamon roll:
I loved meeting co-owner Felicity Godik, who runs the business with her husband Greg, and hearing how both the architectural firm and the design agency they employed were also wife and husband teams. đ„°
A NOTE ON DISCLOSURE AND MY RECOMMENDATIONS:
I was a guest of Linea for breakfast. I tried so many things (most of the breakfast menu and half of the patisserie items) because I went with four friends who were also hosted - they are influential on Instagram.
I never commit to share anything content-wise when I accept food from a business. This is partly because it takes time to create content and occasionally I remember that time is finite and valuable in itself, but also because I really value my integrity in what I recommend to you.
Thatâs why most of what I share here are things Iâve paid for myself, or sometimes Iâve been the guest of a friend who has their own agreement with the business.
If the arrangement is directly with me, then I make it clear in advance that if I agree to come and afterwards I donât think I can recommend what I try, I will share feedback with the business instead. That feels like more than a fair exchange to me, given that I do usually get paid actual money by businesses to give menu and product feedback - on top of being given the products to taste. Developing and giving feedback on products used to be my full time salaried job and is still part of what I do now, alongside judging food competitions and hosting tastings, events and food tours, and writing.
If I love any of the things I try on these occasions I share them with you because I want to, not out of obligation or requirement. Even when I love something I occasionally donât tell you (sorry).

A special discount
To celebrate the latest update I thought Iâd offer all of you dear readers a special discount on the bundle of all three London maps.
When you buy all of the three London maps together itâs at an already reduced price of ÂŁ19. This gives you the 200+ locations in London that I recommend for bread, croissants, cake, patisserie, ice cream and more. Each location has some comments from me and, in each of the baked goods maps, you can filter by whether the bakery uses quality chocolate. You get access to the end of the year and itâs updated at least once a month until then. Which, as you can see from last weekâs triple opening bonanza, is quite useful.
If you use the code JEN2025 at the checkout of jenniferearle.com/shop the bundle will be just ÂŁ15 until the next newsletter comes out next week. đ„ł
Thanks to everyone whoâs already purchased all three maps. đđ» If this is you, please drop me a note (you can reply to this email or if youâre reading this in the app you can subscribe and reply to the welcome email). Iâll happily give you a discount on one of the city guides as a thank you for trusting in me already. â€ïž
Or, if youâve just bought one of the maps and would like to add the others for the difference to ÂŁ15 let me know and Iâm happy to honour that, too.
Iâm going to share more pictures of the new Corner Shop which I popped into on the way home from Linea last Friday on @thenextdeliciousthing Instagram tomorrow, but in the meantime, hereâs a picture of the menu of
âs baked goods:Finally, over the school summer holidays Iâm going to Edinburgh, Norway (Bergen and Stavanger - Iâll be doing a chocolate tasting there, please tell anyone you know in the area!), Ireland and Northern Ireland and Cornwall. Iâve got lists started for each but if you have any recommendations, please let me know in the comments below or by replying to this email. I always appreciate what excellent recommendations I get from this brilliant group of readers. đ
Until next weekâŠ

P.S. I thought Iâd remind you the new weekly Leyton market by KERB (supported by At The Table and a little by me) is starting this Saturday! In case you missed it, I wrote about it here last week:
LOTS of London Bakery News
The cognitive gymnastics to write about âexciting bakery newsâ when the actual news is flooded with more horrors every week⊠It feels kind of like putting on a false persona, one that ignores all of humanityâs suffering.
Itâs great to see you credit the designers of Linea.
